5S Principles

As we all head towards the next quarter here at Protective Packaging with ambitions to strengthen our successes, the Engineering Department can’t fall behind. The engineering team have decided to take the initiative to further oil the wheels of this very successful business by beginning to implement highly recognised  5S principles. 5S is a basic fundamental, systematic approach for productivity, quality and safety improvement in all types of businesses.

5S focuses on:

  • Having visual order.
  • Organisation
  • Cleanliness
  • Standardisation

What are the 5S’s?

  1. Sort –

The first step, making things clean and organized. This improves efficiency, helps increase quality, makes it simpler to spot problems and enhances productivity.

  1. Set –

Organize, identify and arrange everything in a work area.

  1. Shine –

Regular cleaning and maintenance

  1. Standardise –

Make it easy to maintain – simplify and standardize.

  1. Sustain –

Maintaining what has been accomplished.

As it proudly states in our logo ‘’Quality Is Everyone’s Business’’ it is absolutely essential to retain our excellent position within the market as the leading manufacturer of climatic packaging solutions. Following these simple steps, will result in happy staff and most importantly happy customers.

Super Suggestion Award

Here at Protective Packaging Limited we strive for perfection, be it in the conversion of Barrier Foil Laminates to provide total climatic protection,  or simply our attitude towards providing the best service we can to our customers worldwide.

I work within the Customer Support department and  have recently received a certificate and gift voucher as a winner of  the Protective Packaging “Super Suggestion” award which is presented monthly for any new initiatives suggested which prove beneficial.    My time saving idea, which will benefit the Customer Support team, although only a small change to our order input system,  will make an improvement none the less.  We’re always looking to improve where possible across all departments, and I am grateful for being rewarded for my idea.

Check and Check Again!

After interdepartmental meetings and lots (and lots!) of work from our IT department this month sees the roll out of our new Customer Support check list.

Information is gathered from the order input screen on the sales data base and then a check list is automatically generated,  this is then checked by a member of our dedicated customer support team.  Way beyond a simple tick box, references, postcodes and materials all have to be written in and checked against the original customer order to ensure it’s correct.

This is just one of the many ways the dedicated teams at Protective Packaging Limited  are increasing order accuracy,  ensuring orders are correct before being despatched to  our valued customers.
