A barrier foil bag is required where any packaged item has a high sensitivity to moisture, oxygen, odour, temperature and UV light. When barrier foil bags are hermetically sealed, they can provide the lowest known water vapour and oxygen transmission rate of any flexible material. This is 80 times more effective than 500 gauge (125 micron) polyethylene.
Yes. To create hermetic seals our permanent-heat heat-sealer is an essential piece of equipment to enable the correct sealing of the bags. A hermetic seal creates an airtight barrier around your product which maximises protection and completes the barrier against moisture vapour ingress.
The vast majority of products that require corrosion protection will also require desiccant. Desiccant removes any residual moisture vapour within the bag. We use British Standard 1133 Section 19 formulae based on your requirements to calculate the required amount of desiccant. If you are already using desiccant in conjunction with polyethylene, your desiccant usage could be reduced by 80 times. In respect of packaging for dry products, desiccant may or may not be required and we are here to guide you.
Barrier foils are bespoke compositions that derive their barrier and strength characteristics from aluminium and polymer substrates of varying thicknesses and grades. They comprise of 2, 3 or 4 layers, bonded together with adhesive or extrusion polyethylene. There are many different variations of laminate construction, which meet the technical and quality requirements of the intended application.
